Skate Park Improvements at Inverloch and Wonthaggi

Ongoing development of Skate Parks across the municipality

By Portal Admin - 27th May 2018 - Back to News

Following the recent adoption of the Skate Park Strategy, Bass Coast Shire Council is moving quickly on responding to the Actions in the strategy by investing significantly in Skate Park facility improvements and developments as part of its 2017/18 renewal program and 2018/19 Budget.

Inverloch and Wonthaggi Skate Parks are the first of a number of projects to be completed across the municipality. These projects have been undertaken by skate facility experts SkateCon and include major repairs and re-sealing works.

Sealant product Skate FX has been applied to each park. This is a proven surface product used on many skate parks across the country which also provides anti-graffiti barriers.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s General Manager Healthy Communities and Governance, David Elder, is pleased with the project outcomes to date and says the changes will be noticeable to Skate Park users.

‘The works will result in a significant change to how the parks ride and feel. The smoothing and sealing of transitions will resemble a new park’s performance meaning faster, cleaner runs for users.’

‘It is expected that the seal will bead moisture in wet conditions but will also wear over time, like all skate parks do.’

Council understands this may cause challenges for some users and requests that users continue to take care and use safety equipment, particularly in wet conditions.

Ongoing development of Skate Parks across the municipality include the replacement of the Cowes Skate Park, construction of new incidental skate parks in Corinella,Grantville and the design for a new Regional Skate Park.
