Bass Coast Businesses Get The Grand Prix Spirit

Local businesses will be flying the colours of the Grand Prix again this year.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 29th August 2007 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, and Lombard The Paper People are inviting all local businesses to take part in this year’s 50 Best Dressed Businesses competition.

The competition is being held to celebrate the 2007 GMC Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin, said the Best Dressed Business Competition had become a feature of the annual Grand Prix.

"The Australian Motorcycle GP brings so many visitors to our Shire,"said Cr Goodwin.

"Dressing up your business is a chance to promote your business while joining in the Australian Motorcycle GP atmosphere.

"In past years, people have got really involved and put together some fantastic displays," said Cr Goodwin.

"It shows what a Bass Coast event the GP has become. And an attractive window always draws a crowd."

Cr Goodwin said the first 50 businesses to register their interest for this competition will be in the running for one of 50 General Admission double passes to the Grand Prix. The top 20 judged windows will receive tickets for Sunday and the remaining commendable windows will receive tickets for Saturday.

"Judging these windows is one of the more enjoyable jobs I get in my role as Mayor," said Cr Goodwin.

"But every year it is getting harder and harder, as more businesses get involved and the windows get more and more impressive.

Winners will be invited to attend a Best Dressed Business Presentation on Tuesday, October 9 at the Cowes Cultural Centre from 6pm – 8pm to receive their prizes. The five windows judged the best will receive a certificate, a framed 2007 GP poster and an invitation for two to the 2007 Grand Prix Official Welcome.

All registered businesses will be assessed by a judging panel. The panel will base their decision on the overall impact of display, the link between your business and the theme of the display, the level of creativity and originality, and the position and location of the display.

Entry forms should be delivered to all businesses during the week beginning Monday 3 September. If you don’t receive one please contact Council’s Economic Development Project Officer, Roslyn Jenzen, on 5951 3317 or 1300 BCOAST (1300 226 278) for the cost of a standard local call.
