Tips For Managing Community Events

Bass Coast Shire Council is presenting an Event Management Forum on Tuesday 9 June 2009 in Wonthaggi.

The Forum will be held in the Civic Centre Council Chambers (entry via Baillieu Street) and will start at 6.30pm.

Council’s Events Coordinator, Frank Angarane, is encouraging local event organisers to attend.

"Anyone considering organising an event and event support groups such as service clubs are also welcome to come along," said Mr Angarane

"This is a great opportunity to get together and discover some tips to help you manage an event.

"The focus will be on some key areas, including tourism and marketing, new P.O.P.E (place of public entertainment) regulations, gas and electricity safety requirements and waste management.

"We will also be explaining Council’s event permit process and requirements for roadside signage."

Mr Angarane said that nowadays, even the smallest event has to meet standards of health and safety.

"Our role is to help groups get up to speed on all these requirements," explained Mr Angarane.

"This forum will help clarify what is required and give people some tips on how to deal with the red tape.

"It is also a great opportunity for event organisers to meet people from other events," continued Mr Angarane.

"It is a chance to share information and resources and to form networks."

Mr Angarane said that the Forum is part of Council’s commitment to the continuous improvement of event management.

The forum is free however it is essential to RSVP to confirm numbers.
