Former world track champion Rodney McGee, manager of the South Australian.com-AIS team, said his squad hoped to repeat last year’s winning performance.

The South Australia.com-AIS team, which won the $30,000 tour last year with the impressive Tasmanian Wesley Sulzberger, will send seven riders to the five-day race that starts in Mallacoota on Wednesday, 1 August.

Melbourne Commonwealth Games track gold medallist Sean Finning heads the contingent.

The Victorian set the Gippsland tour alight last year with a thrilling win in the opening criterium stage in Mallacoota.

Other team members are:

Shaun Higgerson, ACT: Winner of the 2005 Tour of Tasmania and Tour of Korea stage winner.

Mark Jamieson, TAS: Australian male junior road cyclist-of-the-year in 2002, and world champion in the teams pursuit in France last year.

Cameron Meyer, WA: Winner of three titles at the 2006 world junior championships in Vienna.

Nic Sanderson, VIC: Stage winner in the 2005 Tour of Japan and seven-times Australian representative.

Zak Dempster, VIC: Time trial winner at the 2006 Australian Cycling Grand Prix in Ballarat.

William Ford, VIC: Third placegetter in 2007 Tour of Thailand.

Tour Director John Craven said he was delighted with the quality of the South Australian.com-AIS team that was one of the best-credentialled line-ups ever to contest the event.

"These riders race all over the world and it is a tribute to the Tour of Gippsland that they are treating this race so seriously," Craven said.

The tour, backed by East Gippsland Shire and Toursim Victoria will be held from August 1-5.

The tour schedule is attached.
