Skilling-up local school students in money-management

Wellington Shire Council is hosting a series of financial seminars targeted at Year 11 and 12 students and designed to help equip them with basic money-management skills that will assist them in life after school.

By Wellington Shire Council - 12th July 2004 - Back to News

The already fully-booked seminars – titled Budgeting, Saving and Lending – are being conducted by a specialist from the banking industry and are being held at Wellington libraries on 14, 21 and 28 July.

Using the hypothetical example of preparing to buy a car, the presentations encourage students to think about savings plans, finance options and budgets.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer, Lyndon Webb: "We are pleased to be able to offer these very useful seminars which should help prepare our younger residents to make informed choices when it comes to successful money-management. This will prove invaluable whether they take up positions in the workforce in a year or two or go on to university.
