Omeo And Swifts Creek Come Off Water Restrictions

East Gippsland Water is pleased to announce that water restrictions will no longer apply for customers in Omeo and Swifts Creek districts from midnight on Friday night, 29 June.

By East Gippsland Water - 22nd June 2007 - Back to News

Omeo receives its water supply from Butchers Creek, while Swifts Creek is served by the Tambo River. The communities are currently under Stage 2 Water Restrictions and the latest move has been made possible because of sufficiently high water storage levels and sustainable stream flows.

While restrictions are being removed, Permanent Water Saving Rules will remain in place. These are in force right across the state, every day of the year, and are not subject to change. They stand as a minimum requirement for all customers to follow and one key rule is that trigger nozzles must always be used on hoses.

Said East Gippsland Water’s Chief Executive Officer Les Mathieson: "We greatly appreciate the cooperation and patience of customers over the past months and all their efforts to conserve water. Much is also owed to our staff at the Omeo depot who have worked hard to get us to the point where water restrictions can be lifted."

A leaflet detailing the Permanent Water Saving Rules is available from East Gippsland Water’s new Omeo office, at the western end of the East Gippsland Shire Council building in Day Avenue. Copies can also be picked up from the water authority’s Bairnsdale office (133 Macleod Street).

In addition, the rules can be viewed and downloaded from the homepage of East Gippsland Water’s website www.egwater.vic.gov.au

For more information, customers can call East Gippsland water’s hotline on 1300 720 700.
