Public input invited for Traralgon Creek Plan

The local community is being invited to take part in a public workshop on Wednesday 26 October 2005 to discuss the Neighbourhood Environment Improvement Plan (NEIP) for the Traralgon Creek .

By Latrobe City Council - 6th October 2005 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s NEIP Officer, Mike Answerth said that the workshop would give interested citizens an insight into the proposed plans for the improvement of the Traralgon Creek Catchment.

"The public will also be able to have some input into the detailed plans which are being developed by the steering committee, overseeing the project," Mr Answerth explained.

"A Neighbourhood Environment Improvement Plan is a relatively new concept instigated by the Environment Protection Authority, through which all stakeholders in a particular area have an opportunity to contribute to an overall plan for improving the area or catchment.

"In the case of the Traralgon Creek NEIP, a steering committee, representing a diverse range of stakeholders, has been meeting for the past six months to establish objectives, liaise with authorities, develop plans and actions and obtain commitment to ongoing improvement of the creek and its surrounds," Mr Answerth said.

Mr Answerth added that the success of these plans would rely heavily on the commitment of the wider community to issues such as responsible treatment of storm water, litter control, water pollution and weed control.

"The Committee comprising representatives of the forestry industry, power industry, land owners, farmers, environmental groups, statutory authorities, and concerned citizens, is committed to develop plans that can be sustained into the future. It is important that as many people as possible understand what is planned for the Creek and have a say in it, by attending this public meeting," Mr Answerth concluded.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber, Civic Centre, Kay Street, Traralgon and will commence at 7pm. All are welcome. For further information, contact Mike Answerth at Latrobe City Council on 1300 367 700.
