Applications For Free Roadside Weed Herbicide Close SoonProperty owners in Latrobe City needing to control roadside weeds, By Latrobe City Council - 18th July 2007 - Back to News have until Tuesday 31 July 2007 to make an application for a specified quantity of a Metsulfuron-based herbicide and wetter under the Department of Primary Industry Latrobe City Roadside Weed Control Scheme.
Latrobe City’s pest plant coordinator, Chris Rankin, said demand so far has been good but other landholders are encouraged to apply.
"Metsulfuron is a selective chemical that can be used to kill most broad-leaf weeds. A voucher will be issued to successful applicants to assist with the control of roadside weeds such as blackberry and ragwort. Weed control can often be expensive, especially in the initial stages when the infestations are large," Mr Rankin said.
"Anyone who owns a property in Latrobe City and has a weed problem on the roadside adjoining their property is invited to apply, but priority will be given to new applicants and those with the largest weed infestations.
"Successful applicants will also need to agree to initial and follow up site inspections to ensure weeds are continually being treated," Mr Rankin explained.
Residents wishing to apply for the free herbicide or who are seeking more information are invited to contact Chris Rankin at Latrobe City, telephone 1300 367 700.
