24O Litre Bins To Be Returned For Garbage And Green Waste

East Gippsland Shire Councillors last night voted to give 240-litre garbage bins to residents who are unable to make use of the vouchers recently issued for green waste disposal.

The bins will be available for residents who are physically not able or who do not have the means to use the Shire’s green waste voucher system.

Mayor Cr Mendy Urie said this interim arrangement would help elderly members of the community as well as those who do not have a vehicle.

"These larger bins will be able to be used for household waste disposal as well as green waste," she said.

"When the dedicated green waste collection scheme begins, which is expected to be in March 2008, the bin can be retained exclusively for that collection while the 120 litre ‘red lid’ bin issued in September will then be used for household waste use."

Cr Urie said the larger bins would be made available on receipt of a written request from qualifying residents and the return of any unused green-waste vouchers.

"For those people who have a vehicle, but don’t have a trailer, each green waste voucher will entitle the user to dispose of two car boot loads of green waste," she said.

"We believe this revised system will overcome the difficulties that have been experienced by a small percentage of the community."
