Lights at Queen Street Park

The installation of lights this month at Queen Street Park is the final stage of a $230,000 project to provide an open, inviting, well lit park for residents and visitors to Warragul.

By Baw Baw Shire Council - 4th May 2006 - Back to News

Council Chief Executive Officer, Mr Glenn Patterson said the installation of the lights completed the capital works stage of the project. "The lighting is a real feature of the park, particularly in the winter months when the days are shorter, I hope residents, visitors and particularly commuters notice the difference," said Mr Patterson.

Council received $196,600 from the Department of Sustainability and Environment as part of the Commonwealth Games celebrations for the project.

"Our vision for these works was to provide a safe, open and inviting park and to improve first impressions of the Warragul Transport Precinct. The works to date have achieved this and when the final landscaping works are complete, we expect the park to look fantastic," said Mr Patterson.

"Our parks and gardens staff will install a new irrigation system in the park in July. When the weather gets a bit warmer they will sow grass seeds and add colour to the park through the existing and new garden beds."

Also due for completion in May, is the Barkly Street car park which is being transformed from an informal gravel car park to a permanent, sealed and lined area. Council contractors are currently levelling the area before asphalting, installing lights and creating parking bays. Through access from Palmerston Street will also be provided.
