Moe’s success in Saturday’s 2007 Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns State Awards has been hailed by Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora as not just a win for Moe, but a win for the whole Latrobe community.

Cr Zimora said he was elated with Moe’s win. "The credit must go to numerous people in the Moe community who had the vision to work towards highlighting positive aspects of the town, and have these entered as submissions for awards. Particular congratulations must go to ‘Make Moe Glow’. Everyone’s foresight and hard work has paid off, first of all with seven awards taken out in the regional competition, and now through being recognised as the state winner."

"This win is all about taking pride in one’s own community. Those involved in the projects that were entered for the awards can all congratulate themselves on the part they played.

"Apart from the structured submissions that received praise, it needs to be said that there are thousands of people in our community who enrich our lives daily, by tending beautiful home-gardens, maintaining attractive shops and offices, and taking pride in community assets such as churches, schools and nature reserves. Moe’s win should be relished and celebrated by those individuals as well; for the pride each one displays in their own environment, collectively results in enhanced community pride," Cr Zimora said.

Cr Zimora said the hearts and minds of the whole Latrobe Valley will be with Moe in the lead up to the national award finals which take place in Hobart in March 2008.

"Moe, quite appropriately has been honoured on this occasion, but a win like this acts as a catalyst further afield, and I am sure other communities in our municipality will be inspired to enter next year’s awards.

"The spotlight will once again fall on Moe next year whatever the result of the national awards, as Moe will be hosting the 2008 state awards. As such, the eyes of all Victorians will be upon Moe and the Latrobe Valley," Cr Zimora said.
