Local Company Wins Innovation Grant Member for Morwell Russell Northe today announced that Traralgon company Samaran International Pty Ltd have been awarded a Technology Development Voucher for $50,000 as part of the By Russell Northe - 21st June 2013 - Back to News Victorian Coalition Government’s $8 million Technology Voucher Program.
Mr Northe said the funding would allow the company to collaborate with suppliers in order to develop, adapt or adopt new products and processes using industrial biotechnology, small technologies or information and communication technology (ICT).
"The vouchers will help innovative companies to connect with high-tech service providers and absorb new technologies to improve their productivity and competitiveness," Mr Northe said.
"The Technology Voucher Program supports projects that involve the development of new technology or explore the application of existing technologies in innovative or novel ways."
Mr Northe said Samaran International Pty Ltd with Monash University received funding to develop a remote monitoring and decision support system, using sensor and communication technologies, for real time data on milk volume and temperature prior to collection.
"Samaran International was established to develop new innovative products for potential commercial markets," Mr Northe said.
"The partnering of Samaran and Monash University Clayton is an excellent example of how the funding program has been able to bring together a local innovation company and a University with respected international research capability to produce an outcome that is expected to both Australian and export market potential.
"Applications for the Technology Development Vouchers would remain open to ensure companies could utilise the program at a time that suited them."
Mr Northe said as a part of the Technology Voucher Program, we have also established a searchable directory of Technology Capabilities and Suppliers, listing companies and organisations that can provide services to voucher applicants.
"The directory includes more than 180 Technology Voucher Program listed suppliers and enables users to easily connect applicant needs with supplier capabilities," Mr Northe said.
Samaran International’s Managing Director Neil Dunbar said "The funding initiative is invaluable in helping the company develop new technologies and remain competitive in the global market.
"The inclusion of on-farm monitoring of milk vats is a very comfortable fit with our existing water and wastewater monitoring solutions," Mr Dunbar said.
"The ability to know the actual volume of milk on hand and temperature compliance prior to collection will have a positive impact on improving milk quality and transport logistics.
"The project is expected to be completed later this year."
