Community Group Sizzles

The Inverloch Community Planning Group is inviting you to its next meeting.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 26th August 2009 - Back to News

A free community barbeque on Saturday, 5 September will give you the opportunity to share lunch with the group, while hearing how ordinary people are doing extraordinary things in the community.

Established in December last year, the Inverloch Community Planning Group has identified six top priorities for the town. Each priority has a focus group and members are looking forward to raising awareness about how this project has empowered them.

Community Planning Facilitator, Tracy VanderZalm, said it was amazing just how much the group had achieved in less than a year.

"The State Government funded Council to support six communities to develop a Community Plan and Inverloch was the first area to partake in this process," Mrs VanderZalm said.

"Community Planning is a project that places great emphasis on cooperation, democratic process and community participation and it takes some time for communities to grasp this concept.

"Inverloch has really taken advantage of it and the results have been inspiring."

Inverloch’s Community Planning priorities focus on researching for a soundshell, protecting the foreshore, supporting the building of the surf lifesaving club, establishing town identity, improving shared pathways and promoting Inverloch as environmentally friendly.

Focus Group members range from four to 15 on each priority. They meet at their own discretion with the larger Community Planning Group meeting once every two months.

The community planning barbeque will be held at Rainbow Park, Inverloch from 1.00pm. If it is raining on the day, please contact Tracy VanderZalm on 0466 130 191to find out whether the meeting has been postponed or location changed.
