Starting from Wilson’s Promontory National Park on Saturday 25 November and arriving in Latrobe City on Saturday 2 December, Glengarry will host an overnight stay, before the ride concludes in Trafalgar on 3 December 2017.

In 2017, riders will be able to choose to ride for 3, 5 or the full 9 days, riding varying distances from 50km to 100km per day.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the event was hugely popular and attracted people of all ages, backgrounds and riding abilities.

"Hosting an overnight camp in Glengarry will provide a terrific economic boost for our region. The potential for tourism opportunities and the vast influx of visitors will put Latrobe City firmly in the spotlight.

"Whilst the target market for the ride is primarily people who own bikes, the appeal of the event is such that it regularly attracts 4000 to 5000 riders as well as an astonishing 500 or more volunteers. Add to that the visitors who come to witness the spectacle and you can imagine just how big the Great Victorian Bike Ride is," Cr O’Callaghan said.

A long established and successful event, the RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride has been running annually since 1984. The ride provides bike riders with an affordable, supported bike riding and camping holiday visiting great destinations. The event is challenging and fun with a friendly community environment. It’s a week in another world.

"We will be working with our local schools, community, sporting and business groups to leverage any opportunities we can to provide additional activities and services for the riders. We want to ensure that the riders and their entourage have a great experience whilst in Latrobe City.

"In collaboration with our community and Bicycle Network Victoria, Latrobe City’s events team will be compiling a program of activities and events to enhance the riders' experience.

"We will be looking to engage interested parties who would like to be involved in 2017 activities. An Expression of Interest form is available on Council’s website," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.
