Council Improves Disabled Car Parking Access

Bass Coast Shire Council has further improved car parking access for people with a disability.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 5th September 2005 - Back to News

Community Safety Manager, Peter Laydon, said that in addition to the extra disabled parking spaces that have been created across the Shire, Council has also removed the nominal fee for disabled parking permits.

"It has been normal practice to charge people a small administrative fee when issuing them with a permit to park in disabled parking bays.

"However, Bass Coast has moved with other councils in abolishing this fee to make the permits free. People will still need to meet the necessary criteria before they are issued with a permit, but there will no longer be a fee charged by Council," Mr Laydon said.

Changes have also been made to the location of disabled parking bays.

"These changes mean that all disabled parking bays are now located as close as possible to facilities like chemists, newsagents and banks," Mr Laydon continued.
