Chairperson of the Gippsland Innovation Festival and Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said that the level of interest in the festival is a clear indication that Gippsland really is an innovative region.

"We have had expressions of interest from organisations in the arts; business; technology; agriculture; environment and community," Mr Buckley said.

The Gippsland Innovation Festival will be launched at the West Gippsland Arts Centre in Warragul on 27 April. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Celebrating Innovation in Regional Life’. One of the key drivers is making innovation accessible to the whole community. Events in this year’s festival will be held across the region until 16 May. A Gippsland event program is being produced and will be distributed thoughout the region.

Mr Buckley said that the Innovation Festival is now in its third year and was originally centred on the Latrobe Valley. "The festival has now grown to encompass the rest of Gippsland following strong interest from across the region in promoting innovation. It’s terrific that having established a successful festival in the Latrobe Valley, we are now able to work together to celebrate innovation on a much wider scale," Mr Buckley said.

The festival is receiving significant support of in-kind and cash support from AusIndustry, all six Gippsland municipalities, Telstra Country Wide, ABC Radio, Gippsland.com, Midvalley Shopping Centre and WIN TV.

Mr Buckley said that the Gippsland Innovation Festival is a further opportunity to really promote the Latrobe Valley and wider Gippsland as a progressive and innovative community to the rest of Australia.

Organisers are now finalising event registrations. Additional events are welcome and details should be forwarded to Chris Buckingham, Gippsland Innovation Festival organiser, telephone 0417 159 733.
