Community Action In Bass

The community of Bass is the fifth Bass Coast community to have completed their draft community action plan and released it for comment.

By Bass Coast - 20th January 2011 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Development Team Leader, Kerri Ritchie, said the Bass Community Plan had been developed by the community, with support provided by Bass Coast Shire Council.

"This plan has been prepared by community volunteers who are keen to contribute to their local community," said Ms Ritchie.

"Group members have developed a vision, priority areas and possible community projects they are interested in pursuing.

"Examples of projects which the community have identified include organising a Clean Up Australia event in Bass, upgrading the netball facilities, creating a walking track along the Bass River from the recreation reserve into town, a skate ramp and playground.

"It is also important to them that the heritage values of the town are maintained.

"It’s important to recognise that this is not a Council Plan, it is a plan developed for the Bass community by the Bass community.

"Council’s only involvement has been to facilitate the process," continued Ms Ritchie.

At this stage the projects are just ideas and will need further investigation and discussion with possible partner organisations, authorities, funding bodies and the community if they are to proceed further.

The Draft Bass Community Plan is on display at the Bass General Store, the Bass Valley Community Centre or alternatively contact communityplanningteam@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

Feedback can also be sent to this address, where it will be forwarded to the Bass Community Planning Group for consideration before they finalise the plan.

Feedback should be provided by 7 February 2011. Please note that feedback will be made available to the public.

The Bass Community Plan has been developed by the community, with support provided by Council through funding provided by the Victorian State Government’s Community Support Fund.

If you are interested in being involved, or would like further information please contact Kerri Ritchie, Community Development Team Leader, on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
