Gippsland Storm May Go Into Recess

Last weekends match at home against Waverley (1) may see the demise of Storm taking the field for the rest of this season.

Round 2 was the onset of major injuries that has marked their first forfeit since entering the Melbourne Rugby League competition against Waverley (2) in Round 3.

At home last weekend in Round 4, Storm played out the first half only to have the match called off early into the start of the second half plagued by more injuries.  Due to duty of care, Victorian Rugby League Referee James Baumgaaner was left with no option but to call the match off.

Acting President, Anthony Huxford claims that MRL Executives are partially responsible for the non retention of players. Not being able to advise players early when the season was starting and producing a draw two weeks prior to kick off hampered all hope of retaining players.  The Victorian Rugby League’s introduction to a new method of payment by players saw an increase to their fees by 15% that has had a huge impacted on players as well.

A crisis meeting is to be held this Thursday at Morwell Miners clubrooms at 7:00PM to determine if Storm will go into recess for this season.  League officials are confident that once matters are put into perspective for players, this will assist with determination.
