Inverloch Community Planning Group

Over 320 indigenous plants planted last year in partnership with the Inverloch Rotary Club have been mulched thanks to the hard work of 15 members of the Inverloch Community Planning Group.

Group member, Michelle Harris, said the group has been active for almost 12 months and this was one of many projects they were working on.

"When planting the vegetation initially we selected hardy, drought tolerant plants, but mulching was essential to retain moisture and ensure the plants thrived," said Ms Harris.

"We’re really pleased to have formed an important relationship with Rotary and that we were able to improve the new garden bed at Rotary Park in Inverloch."

The Planning Group recently attended a briefing to Bass Coast Shire Council to explain its achievements, projects and how it believed communication with Council could be improved.

"It was fantastic to present our Group to Councillors and Senior Council Staff," continued Ms Harris.

"One of the key points we raised was the importance of consulting and listening to community concerns on projects that affect the community, like the Inverloch Design Framework.

"The Framework will effectively shape the future direction of Inverloch and it is important the Inverloch community has their say."

According to the Group the Inverloch Community not only includes those that live in the area, but those that holiday or visit on weekends too.

"Last week we launched the ‘Community Connections’ process," said Ms Harris. "This is aimed at visitors rather than those living in town permanently.

"Many of visitors have a strong affiliation to the area so the Community Connections process is a great way of ensuring their input and ideas are included too."

The next Community Planning Group meeting will be held on Tuesday, 23 February at 7pm at the Inverloch Community Hub.

The Community Planning project has been funded by Department of Planning and Community Development and auspiced by Bass Coast Shire Council.
