Ingram condemns Nationals on Telstra capitulation

Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has condemned the federal National Party on its capitulation on the full sale of Telstra.

By Craig Ingram - 19th August 2005 - Back to News

Mr Ingram called on Nationals’ Senator Julian McGauran to stand up for the 70% of Victorian voters who oppose the governments proposed sell off.

"Country people are already at a disadvantage in both service quality availability and price," Mr Ingram said.

"The Liberal Party’s philosophical-driven privatisation agenda will leave country people out in the cold for the future roll out of the latest technologies.

"The Federal Government’s $2 billion future fund is totally inadequate and is only half this year’s Telstra profit.

"Even the Telstra CEO has stated that it would require double that amount committed to provide ‘up to scratch’ standards for rural telecommunications users," Mr Ingram concluded.
