Plant Based Protein trends | Gippsland Online Marketplace Workshop & more
Weekly updates on plant based protein trends, Gippsland online marketplace workshop and more!
Bairnsdale's Northern Ground is the latest addition to a growing number of restaurants and cafes to join Food & Fibre Gippsland.
Chef and owner Rob Turner takes produce sourced from the immediate area and creates a menu of fresh, seasonal and inventive takes on breakfast and lunch favourites that are beautifully presented in his busy cafe restaurant.
Using the best of Gippsland produce, along with local wines and beers, is central to Rob's philosophy, to provide customers with a memorable experience and to also highlight the incredible efforts of the region's producers.
Alongside his seasonally driven ever-changing menu, Rob's staple cafe breakfast & lunch service from Monday to Saturday is always delicious. A popular choice for both locals and visitors, Northern Ground is also open for dinner on Friday & Saturday evenings.
Hospitality & Food Services Sector Forum # 2
To continue to support the growing number of restaurants, cafes and food destination businesses connect with the food & fibre sector, in partnership with TAFE Gippsland, we will be holding our 2nd Hospitality Forum tomorrow - Monday 17th of February at Duart Homestead.
We’re looking forward to bringing everyone together again!
Since we last met in the middle of 2019, we’ve been able to tick a few items off our quick wins list and work continues on the bigger ticket items. We’ll give an update on all of this tomorrow, then get participant thoughts and input on the next round of needs and ideas to add to the list.
AND - we're introducing a new addition to the agenda, where two of our members will showcase their products, sharing samples with everyone to try. For tomorrow's event, we've got some of the trial batches of the delicious new cultured butter from Gippsland Jersey that match perfectly with SeaSalt Artisan Sourdough - both authentic Made in Gippsland products!
To find out more and confirm your seat by 10am Monday morning - click here.
Participation is free, we just need to know who's coming !
Potential Opportunities in Plant Based Proteins
Sometimes in the face of disruption - drought, fires, and changing consumer preferences, it's good to reflect on emerging trends and new opportunities.
A recent report from AgriFutures Australia highlights the opportunities in plant-based proteins as a means of diversifying choices for producers, processors and consumers to fill the growing gap between global protein demand and supply. Click here to read more.

Developing a Gippsland Online Market Place
In collaboration with the Latrobe Valley Authority, our Smart Specialisation project is working on a number of key initiatives, including the development of a Gippsland Online Marketplace.
With an ongoing commitment to engage with community, industry, government and researchers to develop best solutions, there will be a half-day workshop on Tuesday the 24th of March to explore the potential of a proposed platform under development by a third party organisation.
The workshop will be an opportunity to hear about a Gippsland online marketplace concept, provide feedback on how well the proposed model currently responds to regional needs / adds value for Gippsland food and fibre businesses, and recommend next steps to support the S3 process and S3 Online Platform Innovation Group.
In running this workshop, we acknowledge that we are committed to exploring collaborative and innovative opportunities, but at this stage, there is no endorsement (or otherwise) for this particular proposal. Collaboration is all about shared decision making!
More details on the agenda, timing and location are coming soon - but we urge interested businesses and stakeholders to save the date now to ensure your vital input.
Awards Season Coming Up!
After a hugely successful inaugural program and gala event in 2019, we are busily working on the 2020 Food & Fibre Gippsland Excellence in Agribusiness Awards, and there'll be plenty of exciting news to tell in the coming weeks.
We're delighted to share with you that KPMG has returned as the sponsor of one of our Premier Awards, the Agribusiness of the Year, the winner of which receives a scholarship to attend a KPMG Agri-Food Tech Traction Tour. It's a 7-day international tour that offers an opportunity to access unique insight into emerging agribusiness technology from a leading agri-food location around the world, valued at $15,000.
Our 2019 winner, Flavorite, will be attending the 2020 tour to The Netherlands in June this year and we plan for them to share their tour highlights at the Awards Gala Dinner. There are still places available on the 2020 tour - to find out more, click here.
