The ferry will operate continuously from 5.30 am before stopping at 7.00 am allowing the morning V/Line train service connection to be made by those having to travel out of the region.

Acting group manager infrastructure Gordon Charles said the vessel’s gypsy wheels and drive chains had to be changed.

"Recent strong winds, high holiday period traffic loads and the need to transport heavy road making equipment to Raymond Island have increased their normal wear rate," he said.

Arrangements for Raymond Island residents and visitors include:

  • Free small water taxi continuous service from 8.45 am to 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm
  • Free large water taxi continuous service from 7.00 am to 8.45 am, and 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm
  • A barge for commercial and emergency vehicle use only
