Local Recycling Initiative Receives Funding

A Latrobe Valley business has been selected as one of 16 Victorian projects to receive a share of $3 million to boost recycling and waste recovery initiatives across metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Nationals Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Russell Northe said SITA Environmental Solutions in Traralgon has been named one of the recipients of the Victorian Coalition Government’s Driving Investment for New Recycling Fund.

A total of 16 individual projects across Victoria will receive funding, including projects to recycle expanded polystyrene packaging and plastic film, light globes containing mercury, and timber.

Mr Northe said the grants will assist industry to implement new forms of recycling that would reduce the amount of waste headed to landfill.

"New recycling methods are good for the environment and for business, and we want to enable industry to adopt smarter recycling methods that benefit the environment", Mr Northe said.

"SITA will receive funding for the Gippsland C&D Sorting Facility Upgrade, which will upgrade the construction and demolition recycling facility so it can accept greater volumes of materials that will be separated into product groups for recycling.

"SITA do a fantastic job of cleaning up our region, and I commend the management and staff on their commitment to reducing waste and increasing recycling.

"The Victorian Government is pleased to be providing over $3 million for these 16 projects. This funding will enable the development of a range of resource recovery initiatives throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria.
