Motorbikes To Help Rev Up Latrobe’s Sun Tour CelebrationLocal bikies will converge on Kay Street on Sunday 12 October to accelerate the celebrations when the criterium event of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour rides into Traralgon. By Latrobe City - 29th September 2008 - Back to News Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed said the Gippsland Ulysses Motorcycle Club will lend a much needed hand in traffic management when the event kicks off.
"Along with the bikies, the local CFA will also assist in traffic duties, under the control of the event traffic management personnel. Members of the two community organisations will be positioned at entrance points and walkways around the circuit.
"We expect the event to be well-attended, and we also know that with the potential of having thousands of people, bikes and cars flocking to the CBD, there is a requirement to ensure that safety is a top priority," Cr Lougheed explained.
"The Gippsland Ulysses Motorcycle Club will also create a motorcycle display as part of the activities in Kay Street. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the club to promote the annual Gippsland Motorcycle Toy Run which will be held on 6 December. Raffle tickets for the toy run will be on sale on the day.
"There will also be a fire brigade vehicle on display in the Kay Street gardens and the CFA will be promoting their fire safety and volunteer programs," Cr Lougheed added.
"As you would expect with an event of this nature, there will be many other family-orientated activities as well as local food providers. For entertainment outside the spectacle of the bike race, there will be music from the Latrobe City Youth Band, roving theatre group 'The Regenerators' and the Latrobe City Cycling Club and other community groups yet to be announced will also be involved," Cr Lougheed said.
"We are working towards a great day of thrilling action and family fun with full details being announced as we finalise the program. We need the support of the community to ensure that Latrobe City continues to build on its reputation as one of the leading regional areas to host sporting and leisure events.
"So we are inviting everyone to come and experience the adrenaline and speed of the criterium on the Sunday and to get behind the riders as they set off on the first leg of the tour on the Monday," Cr Lougheed concluded.
