Moe’S Access For All Abilities Playground Takes Shape

Moe’s Access for All Abilities (AAA) Playground is taking shape at the Joe Tabuteau Reserve in Moe

By Latrobe City Council - 2nd August 2007 - Back to News

with ramp decking now being secured on the multi-level timber structure by local group TRY Youth & Community Services.

The AAA playground will incorporate a large sand pit, and numerous play activities such as accessible sand diggers, a spiral slide, net climb, climbing frames, and musical items.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said the works totalling $187,000 have been funded primarily by council, with support from the Victorian Government, Moe Lions Club, local business and community groups.

"This is very much a project where the lead has been taken by the community, particularly through the development committee which has been formed, to deliver this project.

"The design for this playground has been completed by well renowned playground designers Mary Jeavons Landscape Architects who worked closely with the development group to develop a plan that will deliver a significant improvement to the provision of play facilities at this regional playground," Cr Zimora said.

Moe Lions Club membership director, John Buckton, said the Lions Club and playground committee were pleased to see the playground now taking shape.

"This is a project that has been mooted for many years and is at last coming to fruition. Now that this first stage is being delivered, we are looking further down the track at landscaping and a barbecue shelter.

"We’d certainly encourage local businesses to come on board with sponsorship to further this project; and also encourage other service groups in the community to help with the long-term provision of what is going to be a much needed facility," Mr Buckton said.

Councillor Lisa Price said the site at Joe Tabuteau Reserve has been selected due to its central location, the existing play facilities at the site and the availability of associated facilities such as car parking and the recently upgraded toilet facilities which include wheelchair access.

"This playground is going to be a fantastic asset for families across the municipality and for visitors. I look forward to the completion of this first stage of the playground in late August, and seeing the first children enjoying the benefits of the work currently being undertaken," Cr Price said.
