Clint Eastwood - Independent Candidate for Gippsland East

'A vote for change in our region'

By Clint Eastwood - 10th October 2006 - Back to News

As a candidate in the upcoming state election, Clint Eastwood has welcomed the important focus by other candidates,

on economic development and investment in the future of our region.

"One prime example is the major issue of our water, which of course then affects the future health of our environment."

"The community of Gippsland East knows and agrees, that we all need to look at ways that will allow us to somehow

‘strike a balance’. It is possible to have a strong and steady economy supported by implementing smart and sustainable living,

but only if we are serious.

We need government, industry and the community to work together on this issue."

"The various agricultural sectors are doing an amazing job, very often under quite challenging conditions.

There are ways and means so our region can be prosperous,

while ensuring that we and our kids can still enjoy a healthy future."

"Instead of cheap point scoring and childish bickering, which is what we are currently getting, we need real local leadership

and action plans for our regions future.

We absolutely must plan for and protect, both the economic and environmental health of the region,

across the entire length of Gippsland East, now and for the generations ahead."

"Business and tourism is another key issue for the region, no matter where you live or work in Gippsland East,

or whether you’re a farmer or a florist, a chairman or a chef, a politician or a pilot. We all rely on a strong economy."

"Well naturally, I’m passionate about business and tourism, as they are key economic and employment drivers in Gippsland East.

I own and operate a business, as does my brother, and so of course I’ve been heavily involved over the past seven years,

in the many projects and organisations that have driven tourism and investment in our region."

"Many East Gippslanders would know me from my strong involvement in our community. I am or have been an integral and

active participant in many varied committees and community activities across the entire region."

"However, I feel that the current focus is wasted on minor or petty issues. We need a much broader joint strategic approach

from all stakeholders including all levels of government, industry and community, to help realise and build on our many

fantastic opportunities that the Gippsland region has to offer. But we can’t do it all by ourselves."

"Government is about governing for all. It is meant to be about looking after the best interests of every citizen,

and not about minorities, factions or power games. Gippsland East is unique. Our people, our environment, our lifestyle,

are what make us different from the rest.

We need government to understand this, and to act appropriately."

"We need our elected representatives to focus on the real job of working actively for their constituents.

We need leaders who are concerned about

the future of the region and its citizens, and will work, hard, for their electorate."

"We need a local member who has a long-term vision and strategies that are of real benefit to our region and our people.

The Gippsland region is of critical importance to the state, particularly to Melbourne.

The government must be made to understand the vital importance of our region,

and realise that Gippsland is an integral part of Victoria."

"If you are tired of irrelevance and inaction, then your chance of a vote for change is here!"
