Cowes Plan Moves ForwardCowes Activity Centre Plan will facilitate development at the key landmark sites of the Warley Hospital and former Isle of Wight. By Portal Admin - 14th July 2019 - Back to News Planning for Cowes’ future is set to move ahead, following the approval of Amendment C151basc to the Bass Coast Planning Scheme.
The approval of the Amendment means new planning policy and controls that were initially recommended by the Cowes Activity Centre Plan 2015 are now in place.
The Cowes Activity Centre Plan was adopted by Council in June 2015, after undergoing significant community engagement. The Plan sets out a long term vision for Cowes, to create an attractive, vibrant and safe seaside village and as a destination in its own right. The Plan also aims to strengthen the town’s sense of place, while consolidating the town centre.
The Plan recommended a number of changes be made to the Bass Coast Planning Scheme through a Planning Scheme Amendment (C151basc) and in particular, to facilitate development at the key landmark sites of the Warley Hospital and former Isle of Wight.
There was a significant amount of community interest in Amendment C151basc during the exhibition period. This resulted in several changes being made to the Amendment, to respond to community feedback. These changes, which were supported by an Independent Planning Panel, included a reduction in building heights for the Warley Hospital site and increased protection for the Moreton Bay Fig tree on the former Isle of Wight site.
