Baw Baw joins regional partnership delivering vital immunisation services across Casey, Cardinia and now Baw Baw communities

Baw Baw Shire has joined Casey and Cardinia councils in delivering vital immunisation services, with over 23,000 vaccines expected across the region in 2025, protecting children and vulnerable community members.

Since 2023, the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Councils have engaged with Kernow Environmental Health & Immunisation to successfully deliver immunisation services to residents. This year, Baw Baw Shire Council has joined this collaborative effort, expanding the reach of immunisation services across the three municipalities.

Bring your child's Health Record Book, Medicare Card (first visit), comfort toy, and allow 15 minutes for post-vaccination observation. Consult a doctor if your child was recently unwell

Protecting community health

Immunisation is one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves and our children from infectious diseases. Councils play a crucial role in delivering immunisation services especially to children within our communities.

The types of immunisation services provided by each council include public immunisation sessions (primarily for 0-4 year-olds), secondary school immunisation programs, flu vaccination programs, and immunisation assessment and catch-up programs.

Council also offers Immunisation Assessment and Catch-up programs for individuals under 20 years of age, refugees, and other humanitarian entrants. It is estimated that more than 23,000 vaccines will be administered across the three councils in the 2025 program. City of Casey Mayor, Stefan Koomen said, "It's terrific to have local councils working together to deliver this invaluable service to our communities in a cost-effective way. All vaccines are provided free of charge and are delivered in accordance with the National Immunisation Program."

"I encourage all Casey residents to understand how this service can benefit them and their families. Delivered through a common contractor, this shared service ensures a consistent and high-quality immunisation program throughout the region," said Mayor Casey.

Broadening health services

Cardinia Shire Council Mayor, Jack Kowarzik said, "I'm so pleased to see the service expanding to support a wider group of residents in the growing region. Partnering up with our neighbouring councils allows us to take a holistic approach in delivering free immunisation services to as many residents as possible."

"For our Cardinia Shire community, we offer multiple sessions throughout the year across various sites locally, to ensure people have convenient access to the service no matter where they live," said Mayor Kowarzik.

Collaborating for health

Baw Baw Shire Council Mayor, Danny Goss said, "We're so pleased to partner with our neighbours in Casey and Cardinia to deliver a shared immunisation service to our growing communities."

"Kernow has been our trusted immunisation service provider for over 10 years delivering thousands of vital immunisations to babies, children and adults across Baw Baw Shire. Now we look forward to working with them in a new way, with improved efficiency and shared resources, to continue delivering this high-quality immunisation service for our residents," he said.

Enhancing community health

Kernow Environmental Health & Immunisation General Manager, Wesley Old said, "Kernow Environmental Health & Immunisation are delighted to be continuing our long-term partnerships with City of Casey, Cardinia Shire Council and, now, Baw Baw Shire Council in a Shared Service to deliver immunisation services across the three municipalities."

"The Shared Service enables our team to work with each council simultaneously, increasing our capacity to deliver essential immunisations to the community. Since 2023, Kernow has maintained a strong working relationship with each council and built consistent, cost-effective ways to improve overall Public Health outcomes," he said.
