is achieved to implement the project at reasonable cost

to water users.

"Implementing the MID 2030 strategy will build on the work undertaken by the Gippsland

Lakes Taskforce to assist farmers with whole-farm plans and irrigation efficiency and

recycling water upgrades," Mr Ingram said.

"As the instigator of the Gippsland Lakes Taskforce, I have been a strong supporter of the

recent improvements in the MID as they have led to both economic and environmental

improvements for the region.

"Implementing this important project should be one of the major recommended actions in

the Sustainable Water Strategy (SWS) and I am disappointed that it has not been fully

supported as a major focus of the SWS.

"The MID has significant potential to continue in improving its water efficiency which will

have benefits to farmers through improved water security and will drive further

improvements to the environment.

"Both State and Federal government funding is essential to enable this project to be

implemented and I am committed to working with the local water users and Southern Rural

Water to deliver funding for this project.

"The MID 2030 strategy is one of my key policy commitments and was one of the projects I

presented to the leaders of both political parties in June.

"Government investment in the MID to improve water efficiency and use will add real

benefits to the local economy and most importantly have long term benefits to the local

dairy industry," Mr Ingram said.
