draft Municipal Fire Management Plans during April.

Fire Planning Network Manager – Gippsland Region, David Johnson, said Gippsland MFMPCs are part of a state-wide initiative for a more integrated approach to bushfire management.

"Councils are working with other agencies including the Country Fire Authority, Department of Sustainability and Environment, Parks Victoria, VicRoads and Victoria Police," Mr Johnson said.

Each MFMPC uses their combined understanding of their Shire to identify a number of assets, properties and community resources that may be vulnerable to bushfire.

"We know community members’ local knowledge could add valuable information to local Plans," explained Mr Johnson.

"The community will be able to suggest items that have been missed from the Register of Assets. They will also have useful information about previous bushfires."

"The committees want your comments and suggestions on current or proposed treatments or works and their timing. We also want to hear how bushfire communications and education programs can better meet community needs," Mr Johnson said

"In particular, we want to know how prepared communities are for bushfire and if people have personal bushfire plans."
The MFMPCs are supported by the Regional Strategic Fire Management Planning Committee which produces a regional Strategic Plan and provides planning expertise and advice.
