The funds will help Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund meet it target for its bushfire appeal which has

so far helped 158 families rebuild their lives after this summer’s bushfires.

The money donated by Esso and BHP Billiton will be used to help those most in need, with every cent

of the donation being passed on to Gippsland residents.

"As a voluntary organisation, the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund does not have any overheads,

and as such, 100 per cent of donations go directly to the people we’re trying to help," fund president

John Mitchell said.

"This magnificent donation by Esso and BHP Billiton will enable us to further help people recover and

rebuild their lives. Last summer’s bushfires stretched from West Gippsland, right through the central

region to East Gippsland, so there are hundreds of people in need of assistance," Mr Mitchell said.

"Esso and BHP Billiton are pleased to provide such a worthwhile contribution to support the Gippsland

Emergency Relief Fund for bush fire recovery efforts in Gippsland," Esso Longford Plants Manager

Mike Kunzig said.

"On behalf of the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund and all Gippsland residents, I’d like to express

our gratitude to Esso and BHP Billiton for their generous support ," Mr Mitchell said.
