Community Interest In Cape Paterson North

The Cape Paterson community came out in numbers to give feedback on a proposal for residential development north of the existing township.

By Bass Coast - 8th February 2012 - Back to News

A meeting on 21 January gave the community a chance to speak with Council staff, the developers and their planning consultants about a proposal for residential development north of Seaward Drive in Cape Paterson.

Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said she was pleased with the number of people that came along to the session and the level of interest shown in the information and concept plans.

"Around 150 community members took the opportunity to take an early look at this proposal by attending the forum at the community hall. Because there is such an interest in this proposal, Council will hold a further information and feedback session on 23 February," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

The meetings are designed to get community views prior to a developer lodging their formal rezoning or development application with Council.

"This approach helps all parties involved to understand what the community thinks about the development proposal and what is important to their community," explained Ms Duncan-Jones.

"At the session held in January, we were able to speak with a good cross section of the community. There was input from Cape Paterson ratepayers, tenants, visitors and other people who showed interest in the proposed development.

"These valuable comments will be prepared as a summary and forwarded to the developers, Councillors and to those community members who registered their interest in the project. There are still opportunities to be involved and provide feedback," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

Council planning staff will hold another community information session in the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre in Wonthaggi on Thursday, 23 February 2012 between 5.30pm and 6.30pm. Those interested in attending should contact Bass Coast Shire Council’s Strategic Planning Team Administration Officer on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).

Another way to be involved is to view the concept plans and submit your comments online before 27 February 2012.
