Harriet Shing MP: Yallourn Golf Club Ready for Gippsland Super 6Yallourn Golf Club all set for Gippsland Super 6 PGA Tournament. By Portal Admin - 3rd November 2019 - Back to News Yallourn Golf Club is looking better than ever, after a major refurbishment supported by the Andrews Labor Government ahead of the upcoming Gippsland Super 6 PGA Tournament to be hosted at the club.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today visited the Club to officially launch the new and improved facility ahead of the major tournament next month, made possible by $194,926 from the Labor Government through the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community and Facility Fund.
The major upgrades included the installation of solar panels, a fully automatic irrigation system, improved spraying equipment, new accessible course paths, installation of security cameras, an on-course bathroom, refurbishment of the machinery shed, and a fresh coat of paint on the clubhouse facias.
The project has helped the club attract world-class tournaments and events like the Super 6 PGA – during which a field of 132 pros will compete across three days of qualifying play ahead of a dramatic top 24 six-hole shootout, allowing spectators to determine a champion on the final day.
In a major coup for the region, former US Open Champion and Australian golfing legend Geoff Ogilvy will be competing in the tournament, among a host of stars including current Olympic golf record holder Marcus Fraser and local AFL champion Brendon Goddard.
The Labor Government is helping to attract major events to Gippsland though the Latrobe Valley Authority’s $85 million Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative.
