Community Planning Continues

Community members from Smiths Beach, Sunderland Bay, Sunset Strip and Surf Beach have a further chance to be part of a Community Planning Workshop this month.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th October 2009 - Back to News

The workshop is happening on Saturday, 24 October 2009 at the Cowes Cultural Centre from 2.00pm – 4.30pm.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Planning Facilitator, Paul Greco, said there had been a very positive response to previous workshops, which had already identified possible projects for the area.

"Five projects were identified at the August workshop: creating a community focal point, the issue of population density, shared pathways, roads and environment protection," explained Mr Greco.

"The group then developed a few short questions to help them measure the level of support for these projects and to get an idea of the direction that their projects might take.

"These questions where put together in a ballot that was mailed out to all ratepayers," Mr Greco continued.

"At this latest workshop, community members will discuss the results of the ballot and what the next steps are."

Mr Greco said the response to the projects identified in the ballot had been encouraging and this information, along with the previous questionnaire data, would help to put together the plan for the Smiths Beach, Sunderland Bay, Sunset Strip and Surf Beach community.

"This workshop is about developing action plans for the five identified projects," said Mr Greco.

"The meeting will also be a chance to decide on the nature of the Community Planning Group and learn about project design.

"There will also be the opportunity to work on new projects that others might be interested in.

"Please come along, bring your neighbours and be part of the future of your community," encouraged Mr Greco.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, 24 October 2009, from 2.00pm until 4.30pm at the Cowes Cultural Centre Hall, 91-97 Thompson Avenue. Afternoon tea will be provided.
