Images of Gippsland From the Mountains to the Sea

Bert Hoveling and Gaynor Robson present over 60 photographic works that highlight a variety of techniques from traditional to digital.

By Gippsland Art Gallery - Sale - 22nd September 2004 - Back to News

A dominant feature of the exhibition is the photogram. Occupying a key position between painting and photography, the photogram creates an ethereal visual space. The diaphanous flora that occupy Bert Hovelings' photograms suggest little of the photographers influence, light itself becomes artist to present the fern in spectral detail. Similarly, Gaynor Robson presents the globular shaped structure of the Hakea in minute detail. Removed from its natural habitat, the Hakea takes on a hyper-real appearance complete with spatial interpenetrations and sublime gradations of colour.

The diverse selection of prints has been assembled from numerous visits to the region encompassing the Gippsland Lakes, High Country, Sale and surrounds. The photographs encompass familiar vistas and the remarkable diminutive elements that make up the Gippsland Region.

The exhibition is on view at Gippsland Art Gallery - Sale, 68 Foster Street, Sale
