Community consultation starts for $2M Mallacoota streetscape upgrade
Community consultation to upgrade the Mallacoota streetscape.
Community consultation has started ahead of $2 million worth of works to upgrade the Mallacoota streetscape, according to Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester. Mr Chester said the project would be managed by East Gippsland Shire Council, with the Federal Government providing $1.5 million to support the major upgrade, as the town recovers from the 2019-20 bushfires.

Designed to support the regions
Mr Chester has secured the funding under the Regional Recovery Partnership program which was designed to support regions most economically impacted by drought, bushfires and COVID-19. "Thankfully, Mallacoota's town centre was spared from the worst of the fires but the current design needs a facelift to improve access and safety for locals and visitors," Mr Chester said.
Secured funding
Mr Chester also said, "Council is inviting comments on it's 'your say' section of the website or locals can attend drop-in sessions on November 17-18 at the rotunda on Maurice Avenue in Mallacoota. This funding is in addition to the $10 million I have secured for the Mallacoota-Genoa Road."
"But I have asked Council to work with Regional Roads Victoria to ensure the projects are well linked and deliver maximum benefits for locals and visitors. These are huge wins for Mallacoota as the town's business community rebounds from the combined impacts of recent events." Mr Chester said.
