Harold Hughes Reserve’s New lookNew playground and skate park for everyone at Corinella’s Harold Hughes Reserve. By Portal Admin - 28th July 2019 - Back to News Corinella’s Harold Hughes Reserve now has a new playground and skate park for everyone to enjoy.
Identified in Bass Coast Shire Council’s Playspace Strategy as a priority project, the playground at the Reserve has been increased in size and function to reflect the growing needs of the community.
It now includes climbing and swinging structures, a new and improved flying fox and a dedicated nature space. Pathways provide greater access and soft fall throughout ensure its safe to use for children of all ages.
The project was funded through Council’s 2018/219 Resort and Recreation Fund and Asset Renewal Program.
While construction was underway on the playground, Council also upgraded the Reserve’s power supply to ensure it has the capacity required for community events and markets that are regularly held at the reserve.
The new Corinella Skate Park is also complete and ready to ride. It features a mini ramp, manual pad and grind rail and accommodates from beginner to advanced. The permanent park will replace the mobile skate ramp which visited the Reserve on a rotating basis. The Park was funded through Council’s Skate Reserve Fund and built in response to the Skate Strategy.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said the Projects are only a start for the Reserve with plans well underway for the tennis court area to be improved in the coming year.
"The Harold Hughes Reserve is a major meeting space for the local community and facilities such as these are crucial to towns like Corinella," Cr Tessari said.
"It is awesome to see the actions from Active Bass Coast, the Bass Coast Skate Strategy and the Bass Coast Playspace Strategy being realised. These efforts will see a fun, active space for people of all ages.
"We are really looking forward to progressing the tennis and multi court facility at the Reserve and the completion of the Master Plan Project which is also well underway."
Council is currently seeking community feedback on the Master Plan, with the public exhibition period open until Sunday, 4 August.
