Water pressure lowered for maintenance worksWater pressure on Phillip Island will be lower on July 9-10 as Westernport Water crews undertake works to improve supply. By Susan Webster - 27th June 2008 - Back to News
The crews will be replacing an air valve in the main supply main servicing the island at Surf Beach.
Westernport Water acting Managing Director Keith Gregory said: "Our staff and contractors will seek to reduce inconvenience to our customers. We apologise for any disruptions caused by this necessary maintenance work.
"Replacing the air valve will mean better reliability for the island’s water supply. It is part of the pro-active maintenance program underway at Westernport Water."
During the works there will be loss of pressure and, in some areas, a possible temporary loss of water.
The next day customers might notice a milky colour to their water. This is simply air in the water. It disappears when the water is allowed to settle for a while. The water is completely safe to drink.
Customers finding air in pipes after the works need simply to run an outdoor tap for a few minutes to get rid of the air.
