Response to Newborough hillclimb proposal being soughtYallourn Heights residents have been invited to a public meeting with representatives of Latrobe City, engineering firm GHD and members of the Gippsland Car Club on Saturday 3 September. By Latrobe City Council - 23rd August 2005 - Back to News The meeting, which follows a similar meeting being held earlier in the day over the proposed motor sports complex at Hernes Oak, will discuss a proposal to establish a hillclimb circuit in Bill Schultz Drive Newborough.
The meeting will take place at the proposed site in Bill Schultz Drive at 12.30pm.
Latrobe City’s manager City Relations, Mark Brady, said the proposal for a hillclimb circuit has been put forward by TRU Energy and the Gippsland Car Club as the Club’s current site in Latrobe Road Morwell is required for TRU Energy’s mine expansion.
"Council is working with both parties to ensure that full consultation is undertaken and to ensure that local residents are not adversely affected by noise from the proposed facility," Mr Brady said.
"We would like residents to come and meet members of the Club and see where the proposed facility may be built.
"Following the meeting, test vehicles will be driven at the venue to establish whether the noise generated can be heard by residents in the area. While this will not provide a definitive answer about noise levels it will provide a useful reference point. GHD will also conduct formal noise tests on the day."
Mr Brady said that Council is also currently working with the Blue Rock Motor Cycle Club with the aim of relocating their existing operations in Coaches Road to the motor sports facility proposed at Hernes Oak.
"The relocation of the existing motor cycle facility would be a major consideration by Council when it comes time to assess a planning application for the hillclimb facility," Mr Brady said.
Mr Brady said that consultation over the proposed hillclimb facility is being undertaken at the pre-planning application stage.
"It is envisaged that after the consultation, a planning application will be finalised and submitted to Council. This will then initiate a formal consultation process which will provide full details of the proposal to all residents and give them the opportunity to make submissions," Mr Brady concluded.
