Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting a community event to acknowledge the achievements of two local footballers – Jarryd Blair and Brent Macaffer – both Collingwood 2010 Premiership Players.

By Bass Coast - 15th October 2010 - Back to News

Bass Coast Mayor, Peter Paul, said all Bass Coast schools would be invited to the event on Monday, 25 October with students wearing their football colours.

"Bass Coast Shire residents are proud of the sporting, arts, academic and cultural achievements of our residents," said Cr Paul.

"In the past we have held community events to congratulate paralympian Amanda Drennan and triple Olympic Gold Medallist Drew Ginn.

The community event will be held from 11.00am to 1.00pm at Apex Park in Wonthaggi.

Should it rain on the day the alternate venue will be the Wonthaggi Power Football Netball Club rooms, Korumburra Road, Wonthaggi.

"Activities on the day will include kick to kick and handball targets with Brent and Jarryd," said Cr Paul.

"This will be run by Jarryd and Brent’s old clubs - Wonthaggi Power Football Netball Club and the Kilcunda Bass Football Club.

"There will be an opportunity for autographs from Brent and Jarryd and Collingwood merchandise will be handed out to the children on the day."

Council will provide fresh fruit and South Gippsland Water will provide bottle water.

Two signed footballs will be raffled on the day.

"I encourage everyone to bring their lunch down to Apex Park and join us in acknowledging the achievements of these local footballers who have attained great success early on in their career."

Wonthaggi Secondary Students and soloists in the Victorian State School Spectacular, Mitchell Sanders and Cassi de Lacy-Vawdon will sing the Collingwood theme song.
