Community Invited To Get Involved In Moe-Newborough Recreation Plan

An outdoor recreation plan for Moe and Newborough is now being developed by Latrobe City Council, and the community is being invited to become involved.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 12th June 2007 - Back to News

Eight key recreation reserves and facilities in Moe and Newborough will be looked at, and a master plan will be developed for each one.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said development of the plan will ensure that the future needs for sport as well as the needs of residents and community groups can be catered for.

"Whether you play sport in Moe or Newborough, belong to a club that uses one of the many recreation reserves, or simply use parks and reserves for walking, playing or meeting friends, council wants to hear from you," Cr Zimora said.

Latrobe City’s recreation manager, Ian Murphy, said Moe and Newborough boast a large number of sports that are played at various local venues, including football, netball, cricket, soccer, baseball, tennis, hockey, bocce, and equestrian activities.

"The ongoing success of these sports, in addition to other more casual activities like walking the dog, kicking a ball, picnicking and just wandering through the park all need to be considered in this plan.

"An important aspect of the development of this recreation plan is community input. Council and the consultancy team appointed to assist council to prepare the plan want to hear from everyone who has an interest in the future of recreation facilities in Moe and Newborough," Mr Murphy said.

"A public meeting will be held at 7pm on Thursday 21 June at the Moe Racecourse Function Room for anyone who would like to contribute to this project.

"Residents and community groups are also invited to forward submissions in writing to council," Mr Murphy added.

Written submissions should be forwarded to: The Recreation Manager, Latrobe City Council, PO Box 264, Morwell, 3840 by Friday 29 June 2007.

For further information contact Ian Murphy at Latrobe City Council, telephone 1300 367 700.
