Newborough Welcomes State’S Best Motocross Riders NEWBOROUGH’s Blue Rock Motorcycle Club will welcome Victoria’s youngest and brightest motocross talent when it hosts the penultimate round of the 2014 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships on July 26-27. By Motorcycling Victoria - 22nd July 2014 - Back to News Up to 150 aspiring professional riders and their families will traverse all corners of the state, even the country, to contest the most coveted trophies in junior motocross.
Blue Rock Motorcycle Club president Gavin Dunn is confident that the club and the track will be ready to host the final round of the year: "We’ve had a fair amount of weather of late. Unfortunately and disappointingly, we’ve had to cancel a few of our events to protect our track, which is looking fairly good," Gavin said.
"Hosting a round of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championships is great for our club and for Newborough," the president continued.
"It injects a bit of extra revenue into the town during the weekend and it attracts some new members for the club too. Newcomers always want to come back to Blue Rock," Gavin added.
Blue Rock Motorcycle Club member Jordan West who races in two classes, the A Grade 250cc class and A Grade 125cc class, can’t wait for the action to kick into high-gear on the weekend.
"The people at the club are really nice and it offers something different from the other tracks," Jordan said. "I’m looking to try to finish off the season strongly in both classes, but to most of all have fun with my mates," the 15-year-old said.
For the first-time in the event’s history the final day of the final round of the 2014 Victorian Junior Motocross Championships will be broadcast live online at www.mysportlive.com.au. To tune-in please visit the website from 9am on Sunday, July 27.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said that it was great to see top sporting events coming to the Valley.
"As well as being an opportunity for local and regional athletes to test their skills on our Newborough track, it is also a great way to introduce visitors to Latrobe City and surrounds. We really welcome the opportunity to host such a high calibre event and look forward to giving the locals a chance to see these athletes competing in their own backyard. I wish all the riders involved the best of luck and hope the weather is kind," Cr Gibson said.
"I’d really like to extend a big thank-you the club committee and members that try and make everything happen for what I hope will be a very successful Victorian Championship," Gavin added.
