Latrobe City’s free Orchestra Victoria concerts

Orchestra Victoria in association with Latrobe City Council and the Latrobe Regional Hospital will present two free concerts in Latrobe City during October.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 5th October 2004 - Back to News

Leading Italian maestro, Marco Zuccarini, will conduct Orchestra Victoria in a night of orchestral favourites, including works by Mendelssohn, Franck and Milhaud, at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Wednesday 13 October. ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ winner and former ‘Recovery’ host, Dylan Lewis, will also narrate Prokofiev’s classic, ‘Peter and the Wolf’, on the night.

Orchestra Victoria String Ensemble, led by Concertmaster Jo Beaumont, will then present a free concert at Moe Town Hall on Thursday 14 October, performing works by Faure, Wagner and Rossini, and featuring Principal Clarinettist, Paul Champion.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that the concerts provide a wonderful opportunity to hear orchestral music in a local venue and Council is proud to be sponsoring the appearances.

"Orchestra Victoria is renowned for its spine-tingling performances, enjoyed by thousands of Victorians every year. It is very exciting that the Orchestra is returning to the municipality again this year, offering culturally enriching performances to local residents, free of charge," Cr White said.

"I am sure that Orchestra Victoria will once again delight and charm the audience, and with guest narrator, Dylan Lewis, participating in the Morwell performance, the concert will attract a younger audience, introducing them to the joys of orchestral music."

"I am also pleased to be able to announce that the Latrobe City Youth Band will perform at the Orchestra Victoria concert on the Wednesday at Kernot Hall. This will be a wonderful opportunity for band members to enhance their performance skills while working in conjunction with professional musicians," Cr White said.

Whilst both Orchestra Victoria performances are free, Latrobe City urges all those who attend to purchase a raffle ticket for a good cause. All funds raised will go towards the Gippsland Cancer Care Unit at the Latrobe Regional Hospital.

Orchestra Victoria will perform at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Wednesday 13 October at 7.30pm and the Orchestra Victoria String Ensemble will perform at the Moe Town Hall on Thursday 14 October at 1.30pm. Both performances are free and open to the public. Bookings are essential. To reserve tickets contact Latrobe City’s Box Office, telephone 5176 3559.
