Treasured Threads

Latrobe Regional Gallery will be hosting a new exhibition, ‘Threads through Time’ in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Embroiderers Guild Victoria.

By Latrobe City Council - 23rd March 2010 - Back to News

This exhibition combines works from the Guild’s State Collection alongside a selection produced by members of the Latrobe Branch of the Embroiderers Guild.

Latrobe City arts director, Julie Adams, said that the exhibition will give local people an exclusive chance to see some exquisite examples of embroidery work dating back to 16th century Italian hand woven linen, and silk thread work from both China and India.

"These pieces are not often on public display and we are very excited about bringing these beautiful works to our region.

"It is also terrific that we are able to display work by local members of the Guild who link this timeless craft into the contemporary, with colourful cross-stitch and techniques including counted-thread embroidery, blackwork, hardanger, stipple and free sewing. The level of skill and talent within our community is fantastic," Ms Adams said.

"Latrobe Regional Gallery is very pleased to be able share in the jubilee celebrations of the Embroiders Guild Victoria," Ms Adams added.

‘Threads through Time’ opens on 27 March and continues until 9 May.
