Community Grants To Aid Reduction Of Greenhouse Emissions

The Victorian Greenhouse Strategy was launched in June 2002 and spells out the Victorian Government’s commitment to supporting local communities to reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

As part of this strategy, the Government has allocated approximately $2 million to the Community Action Fund until 2004. This fund provides grants to facilitate the forging of community partnerships aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Some of the objectives of the Fund are to facilitate cost-effective greenhouse abatement by the Victorian community, to build community partnerships and grow community participation rates in greenhouse abatement activities, to encourage innovation in greenhouse abatement and to facilitate long term behavioural change in the community.

The closing date for applications is 4.00pm on Friday December 20 2002. Grants will be provided for projects with a capacity to directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Victorian community.

Information sessions will be held at two venues in Gippsland in November: In Traralgon on November 15, and in Bairnsdale on November 22. The sessions will run for approximately one hour, including questions. Attendance at one of these sessions is highly recommended for prospective applicants for the Community Action Fund grants.
