By Rachel Dawkins - 15th October 2002 - Back to News

The Gippsland Agribusiness Forum will hold its Annual General Meeting at the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority offices in Traralgon on October 25. The Minister for Agriculture, the Hon Keith Hamilton will address the Forum, following his opening of the new Information Centre at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment’s Regional Office in Traralgon.

Since the launch of the "Growing Gippsland" agribusiness strategy in October 2001, the Gippsland Agribusiness Forum has focused on facilitating the implementation of this strategy. The Forum has succeeded in securing funds to undertake projects like the Gippsland Agribusiness website, which will showcase the competitive advantage of Gippsland’s Agribusiness and provide an interactive market place for buyers and sellers. Other projects initiated by the Forum include a sustainable agribusiness and marketing project, a regional dairy plan and a communication strategy.

Regional Marketing Officer with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Jason Keating said that members of the Gippsland Agribusiness Forum have been tireless in their work to target funds to implement the strategic elements identified in the "Growing Gippsland" Agribusiness Strategy.

"The strategy has identified elements that we should be working on for the next few years to grow agribusiness in Gippsland successfully," he said. "This is a very exciting time for agribusiness in this region and we’re looking forward to talking with Minister Hamilton about the work of the Forum."

Anyone who has an interest in agribusiness and would like to attend this meeting is welcome. The AGM will take place at the West Gippsland Catchment Authority located at 16 Hotham Street, Traralgon. The AGM will start at 1.00pm and conclude at 3.00pm. Afternoon tea will be provided. For further information please contact Mr Angus Pollock on 0407 013 537.
