The Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has asked the Treasurer, John Brumby, to remove State Government stamp duty on public liability insurance premiums.

"The increase of public liability insurance has had a devastating effect on small businesses and community groups in my electorate and across the state," Mr Ingram said.

"I remain actively involved in finding solutions to this massive problem and commend the State Government on its work so far.

"While there is no quick and easy solution, I believe the State Government can provide some immediate assistance by removing the stamp duty on public liability insurance premiums.

"This would offer at least some financial relief and, I believe, could be easily implemented by the government.

"I have asked the Treasurer for his thoughts on the proposal," Mr Ingram said.
