Help Available For Businesses Wanting To Cut Power Bills Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has welcomed the Government’s decision to add businesses to its Energy Saver Incentive (ESI) which will allow them to take advantage of practical incentives to save on power bills. By Russell Northe - 22nd July 2011 - Back to News "The Government has just announced that the greenhouse gas savings target under the ESI will double from 2.7 million tonnes to 5.4 million tonnes per annum from 2012 for three years," Mr Northe said.
"The Coalition Government will also add to the program’s range of eligible activities and expand the ESI to businesses in 2012 which will allow them to take advantage of incentives to save on energy costs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions," he added.
Under the program, energy retailers offer Victorian households incentives such as free or discounted installation of energy efficient products such as lighting, shower heads, heating and hot water systems and high efficiency refrigeration, air conditioning, TVs, pool pumps and clothes dryers.
"The program is another way in which the Government is taking practical measures which help families and businesses save energy, reduce power bills and be environmentally friendly," Mr Northe said.
The Coalition Government is also seeking ideas from Victorians on energy efficiency measures that could be added to support expansion of the scheme to businesses from 2012 to provide cost-effective options to save energy. For more details on this visit www.saveenergy.vic.gov.au
Mr Northe said another initiative which also worked to help businesses reduce power costs, was a joint program developed by the Victorian Employers’ Chambers of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), called Grow Me the Money.
The program helps small to medium sized businesses become more sustainable and save money on resource usage following a 12 step program.
Mr Northe said he knew many businesses were keen to reduce their environmental footprint but weren’t sure where to start.
"Grow Me The Money guides businesses through the steps necessary to implement sustainable business practices and benefit from their efforts.
"Through the program, businesses have been able to save on average over $8,000 and 9% on their utility bills by moving through the program.
"It is a fantastic program and I encourage all businesses to visit www.growmethemoney.com.au for more information."
