Northe: Have Your Say On Regional Planning

The Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has encouraged local businesses, organisations and individuals to contribute to the development of a strategic plan for regional Victoria

By Russell Northe - 14th May 2009 - Back to News

Mr Northe said locals can have their say on key issues affecting the region as part of the Gippsland Regional Strategic Planning Initiative (GRSPI).

"A survey has been produced calling for opinions on a range of issues including higher education, emissions trading, agriculture, our ageing population and public health," the Morwell MLA explained.

"Respondents are asked to consider the service and infrastructure needs and policy changes required to address these issues over the next decade."

Last week Mr Northe appealed to the Brumby government to investigate the impacts of Labor’s proposed emissions trading scheme on the Latrobe Valley.

"Any such modelling needs to be made available sooner rather than later to enable local businesses, industries and council to prepare for the future," he said.

An independent report by Frontier Economics has suggested the local economy will shrink by one fifth following the introduction of Rudd’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

The GRSPI survey is available by contacting Mr Northe’s electorate office or accessible online via direct link: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey?p=WEB2296YW8JDXV

Mr Northe said locals have a limited amount of time to lodge their views to the GRSPI project management team. Completed surveys must be returned by Wednesday 27 May to:
