More Than 800 New Weekly Bus Trips For Latrobe Valley

More than 800 new weekly bus trips will be introduced to the Latrobe Valley next month as part of a $2 million per annum Victorian Government investment intro improving services.

By Russell Northe - 20th December 2011 - Back to News

Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the improvements; to be introduced on January 23, 2012 would result in a 79 per cent increase in service levels.

"People in Traralgon, Moe, Morwell and Churchill have been waiting a long time for improved public transport services," Mr Northe said.

"These additional services will be introduced from early next year and will provide a major boost for the region including increased service frequency and improved connections.

Mr Northe said these changes were a direct result of consultation with the community and the local bus operator, Latrobe Valley Bus Lines.

"Thanks to input from the community, we will not only be increasing the number of services but also significantly increasing operating hours, network coverage and service frequency.

"Inter-town bus services will more than double and Churchill will gain a dedicated town service.

"Many services will now also commence between 7:00am and 7:30am and run through until 6:30pm or 7:00pm which will vastly improve people’s access to public transport.

"Along with these increased services, these changes will also give the Latrobe Valley an employment boost, with approximately 25 new employees at Latrobe Valley Bus Lines.

Member for Narracan Gary Blackwood said the improvements would significantly improve coverage in Traralgon, Moe, Morwell, Churchill and surrounding smaller townships.

"Like many other regional areas, Latrobe Valley continues to grow and it is important that public transport in the area is expanded to meet the demands of the growing population," Mr Blackwood said.

"This also means improving connections between services to ensure people can get where they need to go with as little hassle as possible."

New Latrobe Valley bus routes will be available on the Viclink website from Wednesday 21 December 2011.

Residents will also be able to pick up a new bus timetable from January on board the buses, from the Latrobe Valley Bus Lines depots, selected outlets or by visiting www.viclink.com.au
